I wrote my book to give my family a better understanding of how my Vietnam experience, and the post traumatic stress that followed, not only affected my life,
but theirs as well. In addition to the positive impact it had on my family, others who read the book gained a much better insight about the effects war can have on its combatants. Believing that my story can benefit families who have loved ones struggling with PTSD-related issues is what gave me the motivation to publish the book.
If families of combat veterans have good understanding of PTSD and how it affects their lives, they are in a much better position to help with the stress and anxiety issues their loved ones face in their attempts at readjusting to civilian life. To accomplish that, I describe many of the PTSD symptoms the troubled combat veteran may be displaying, ways they can support him, and valuable guidelines to make their lives easier living with that person.
